Akagera National Park

‘A true conservation success story, the Park was established following the genocide with an effort to protect the wildlife and rehabilitate this once untouched wilderness area that had succumbed to poaching and farmland’

Highlights:
  • A big five game experience in Rwanda.
  • The mixed habitat from swamps & lakes to open savannah plains & woodlands provides a great deal of species diversity.
  • Incredible birding with over 500 species to be witnessed here including the somewhat shy shoebill.
  • Experience the wildlife from the water with a boating safari on the expansive lakes that are unique to the Park.
  • Some of the highest populations of hippo in Africa amongst the expansive lakes.
