VICTORIA FALLS, HWANGE, MANA POOLS & MATOPOS

ABOUT ZIMBABWE

A country close to my heart as I was born in Bulawayo, a small rural town that is located just a few km’s from the magnificent Matopos National Park. The Matobo Park is unique and historical; a sanctuary famous for its African rock art, balancing granite rocks, rhino, the site of Cecil John Rhodes grave, and home to the highest concentration of black eagles in the world.

Victoria Falls Town, home to one of our seven natural wonders of the world. It is here I went to primary school; we were greeted by warthog & impala at the gate of our house in the morning, elephants joined us at swim practice for a drink out the pool, and baboons stole our lunch boxes at recess time. A truly wild & special little town this is.

Just a hop, skip and a jump from Victoria Falls Town is Hwange National Park. This Park is iconic as it is Zimbabwe’s largest. This is the elephant stronghold of Zimbabwe, an incredibly game-packed Park that was once the royal hunting grounds of the Ndebele warrior king Mzilikazi. This was our weekend getaway growing up!

My favorite part of this country is Mana Pools National Park, this Park stole my heart and I dub my favorite region of Africa! Its remote, wild beauty, rugged escarpment, nutritious river banks the game adores and the standing elephants reaching up into the trees to grab Ana Tree pods to snack on.

The true heart of Zimbabwe comes from its wonderfully kind, warm and welcoming people. It will be hard to find Zimbabwean without a smile on their face, greeting you. The Zimbabwean people are incredibly talented and creative- a great place to grab some mementos before heading home.
